Dream a Dream

I remember when I first saw Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent. I was at the gym on the treadmill. The news was on the TV and they were airing a clip from the show of Susan singing "I dreamed a dream" form Les Miserables. Everyone was discounting her almost from the beginning. She laughed and made fun of herself. No one was expecting her to sing very well.

They finished interviewing her and then she began to sing. It was the most beautiful moment. She wasn't fidgety and she wasn't flashy, she just sang. She sang with all of the passion that was within her and you could hear it in her voice. I was spellbound and I didn't want her to stop. I couldn't help but cry for the beauty of her voice and the innocence in which she shared it brought me to tears.

There are so many times in our lives when all we want is to be the amazing gift that we are and share it with the world. However, most of the time we tend become intimidated and either hide ourselves away or forcing and overdoing everything in our attempts to be "seen". When we hide we tell ourselves we don't care, it doesn't matter. When we are forcing things to happen and overdoing we feel used and unappreciated, resentful.

I wish we could put aside our fears of what other people are thinking about us so that we can just allow ourselves to be without holding back or trying to force it. Because hiding and forcing never gives us the satisfaction we are looking for, only pain and frustration. The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what we can, while we can to the best of our abilities without the fear of what someone will say about it.

If you have time, follow the link and watch this clip of Susan on YouTube. Pay attention as she sings. There are times when you can see her nervousness and yet when she sings that melts away. When she sings she steps into her authenticity and she becomes mesmerizing. She is beautiful. You can't help but root for her. The air of the judges changed as they received the energy of her performance.

When you are in your authenticity people can't help but love you and want to rejoice with you. We can all have this in our lives if we will step out there and give ourselves permission to shine without concern of the fear of what others are thinking. Everyone is dying to live in the authenticity of who they are. When we live this way it is as Marianne Williamson says, as we give ourselves permission we unconsciously give others permission to do it.

So many of us are prisoners of the thoughts in our mind and we are not able to live authentically. Most of these fears are unfounded. So give yourself permission and free not only yourself but everyone who is able to see you and what you are willing to do. Freedom to live the life we dream has to start somewhere, why not let it start with you.

Susan dreamed a dream and it led her to the life of her dreams that she gets to live every day. What dream is your heart yearning to see become a reality? Maybe it's time to take that first step and see where it leads.
